[SURE IS. Kazu just chalks her enthusiasm up to a byproduct of boredom, but he'd understand if he ever found out the true cause. He used to have no friends until Ikki came along and beat him up.]

[The connection cuts, and there's a thump in Ikki's room some time later, followed soon by Kazu walking out of it. He came in through the window—doors are overrated when you're a storm rider.]

Ooooi. Kougyoku?

[Which room belongs to her...]

[ Yep, that sounds like him. Kougyoku peeks ever so slightly behind the door to her room. ]

Kazu? [ Wow, he looks taller in person. If he turns this way, she'll quickly close the door. ]

[Too bad he's taken his A-Ts off to be polite, or he'd look even taller (and be a cheater). At the sound of his name, he'll naturally turn her way, one hand half-raised in greeting—]

Kougyo...

[—and stare at her reaction, fingers drooping.]

...ku? Oi, I saw that!

[ Her voice is muffled by the door. ]

Don't — get the wrong idea, okay? I don't hate you or anything, it's just... [ He won't judge her like Judal will, right? Might as well say it. ] It's my first time!

[Kazu won't, but anyone overhearing this conversation sure might judge them both! He boggles a bit, throwing a hasty look around the (thankfully Ikki-free) apartment before flipping his hand at the shut door.]

Back up, you're giving people the wrong idea already! What first time!?

[ Fortunately, all other possible connotations go over Kougyoku's head. She opens a small enough gap for her to look at Kazu. ]

It's my first time having a friend over.

[Kazu would've answered that with a blurted 'for real?' if he wasn't standing close enough to spy her expression, which is what gets him to hold his tongue. Instead, he scratches his head, clearly at a momentary loss before caaaaarefully venturing:]

So... That's a good thing, right? I'm not breaking some weird custom or anything?

[ She opens the door a little wider and shakes her head. ]

No, not at all. I'm just nervous...

[Now he's starting to get weirdly nervous too, 'cause this is her first time having a friend over and what if he screws it up—which is dumb, so he tamps it down.]

Guess I can kinda get that... S'not a big deal though! We're just hanging out.

[ a legit concern for her, tbh. eventually, she opens the door and comes out. ]

Well, alright. Um... you said you were gonna show me something?

[Looks a little relieved when she does, quickly pulling his tablet from a pocket.]

Figured you gotta learn how to use this. What'd you know already?

Let's see... [ she takes out her tablet as well, opening it and showing it to him. ] I know how to use the function where I can show people my face, and I know how to make words appear, too.

[ it's okay! i'm a little busy during the holidays anyway. ]

That's video, the other's called texting. You guys have regular phones where you're from? 'Cause you can just let 'em hear your voice too, like making a call.

[Demonstrates on his own!]

[ but kazu what is a phone? Don't confuse her even more!

She answers his call as soon as he makes it. ]

Um, hello? I don't know what to say.

S'okay, this's just practice anyway. You wanna try calling me back?

Okay. [ She sloooowly presses the buttons on the screen until she figures out how to call him. Aaaand it's ringing! ]

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

[He turns his display around to show her the incoming call alert before moving on to pull up the text and video functions, pointing to the relevant buttons as he speaks.]

You can do it with text and video too, so you don't gotta post to the whole network just to talk to one person.

[ She claps her hands. ] Wow, that's convenient! Technology is really advanced in this world, isn't it?

Um... does it run on magic? Does your world have something like this too?

Nah, just plain old batteries I think.

[He pulls out his own cellphone from home to show her.]

Ours aren't this cool, but we're getting there. Do you guys just— talk through crystal balls or what?

There are magic tools that can do that, but they aren't widely-used... Um, mostly, we write. [ She looks away, a little embarrassed to admit the rest. ] I think writing letters is easier, but I don't really know. I haven't written to anyone before.

We've got those too— [ A shrug, then. ] —but the writing part's not that special. S'nice getting one though.

[ throws a quick glance at him before hiding her face ]
